Tyrese Turns 33!!!

This actor, author, and musician is celebrating something other than bringing in the New Year. Let's take a look at the accomplishments and some appealing photos of the handsome man we all know as Tyrese...

The Facts behind My Faith: Truth about the Bible

There have been many biblical scholars and non-biblical scholars who have questioned the validity of the Bible.  There have been many articles and books printed regarding its flawed data—or lack thereof. I recently came across another blog article written by John Shelby Spong that essentially stated the Bible was not directly from God because of human erring. He gave many statistical “discoveries” and records that concluded there were several misconceptions about the Bible and its facts.
Well, in my opinion, Mr. Spong has only endeavored in proving his point with his own theory like most scholars or theologians do. Namely that the Bible has evolved and should evolve, fitting our current receptivity, therefore, he feels "since there are a few things that I don't like contained within and it doesn’t add up, let us take it and make it in our own image."
Well, that just won’t permeate with me. Let me explain why...

Are Black Women Being Condemned or Just Misrepresented?

I know some, if not most, of black women are feeling condemned in the media and in local capacities around us. They want to know why they're always being the one talked about.

Are black women under attack from the media or just simply misunderstood?

3 Reasons for the Importance of Religious Education

Have you ever met a Christian that made you cringe? They are preaching scriptures to you after they just finished gossiping about their co-worker. How about meeting that Muslim who moans when they articulate how horrible it is to be eating pork. Have you ever met the Jew who just couldn’t let you call out Jesus’s name without reminding you there is no “J” in the Hebrew language? What about meeting that Buddhist who has to enlighten you with sayings from Dalai Lama while forcing you to close your eyes and stay quiet?

Yes, I know you have met some of these people. I have too.

The problem then becomes us questioning if we do ever decide to practice our faith, will we become like those people who improperly share theirs.

Why is practicing our faith so complicated?

Lil Wayne and White Women: Is He to Blame for His Dating Decisions?

I woke up and scanned my timeline like I usually do. Well, this morning I came across a retweet from actress and reality star Tami Roman (Basketball Wives) saying that this particular article was a must read.

Once I clicked on the link and read the post for myself, I couldn't have agreed with Tami more...

Reunited and it Feels So GOOD: Will Smith and The Fresh Prince Cast

I was one of those kids that couldn't wait to get home from school and catch a new episode of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. I absolutely loved that show and still watch it currently in syndication. Well, on Facebook this past week the mega star Will Smith kicked off the holiday season with a reunion of his co-stars from the hit comedy sitcom. More plus a pic of the reunion inside...

Have We Started the "End of the World" Countdown?

Many of us have learned by now that the Mayan Long Count calender allegedly marks December 21, 2012 as the end of an era.

Newborn in a Box

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A baby girl was found in a cardboard box on a north Philly sidewalk. I am sick to my stomach as I write this because I can picture a newborn baby stuck in a box and left to die, while the irresponsible mother walks away. Here are the details behind the news and how I feel about it...

Floyd Mayweather, Jr. Sent to Jail!!!

Another black man behind bars. Handsome and successful, boxing champion Floyd Mayweather, Jr. finally went before a judge for the 2010 assault case filed against him by the mother of his children. He was accused of hitting his "baby mama" but how much jail time did he receive?

And why is yet another black man behind bars for committing a crime that he wouldn't want happening to his mother, sister, or daughter?

Who Goes First? (Breaking Relationship Barriers)

When we get into arguments or conflicts with those we love, we always tend to wait for the other person to come forth and say sorry or mend fences. Why is that?

Don't Let Your Love Tank Hit Empty!

We all know that love plays a principal role in our lives. It certainly plays a role in mine. From the connections I made growing up to the relationships I continuously create as an adult, love is definitely the fuel that keeps me going.

There has been a prominent place marked in our lives for love in both secular and religious establishments. Love is the energy that drives us and keeps us grounded in our personal lives and while interacting with the outside world. Love is what God gave us through Jesus Christ to share with one another. That is why it’s important to constantly stay gratified with love so that you may flourish. It’s not healthy or prosperous to let your love tank hit empty. Here’s why...

Reed Between the Lines Finale!

As many of you know, Reed Between the Lines, a new family sitcom on the BET cable network has become one of my favorite television shows to watch with my family. Well, tonight they are airing a three-part finale to wrap up the show's successful season. I'm excited that they made it through a full season, but I'm sad to know that I'll have to find something else worthy of my time and attention on television every Tuesday night...

Every one of us needs peace in order to enjoy life. We must have some sense of tranquility in our daily lives in order to keep our stress levels low. Another Impending Divorce?! Deion and Pilar Call it Quits

What is going on with marriages in the celebrity industry?! We just learned about Vanessa Bryant filing for divorce from Los Angeles Laker superstar athlete, Kobe Bryant. Not to long ago we were reporting the confusing divorce of Bishop Eddie Long and his wife.  Now here's news of yet another marriage ending after hanging in there over a decade...

7 Ways to Battle Depression

Depression. The most common emotional sickness in this world today. Many of us have experienced depression or are currently experiencing it. So many clinical psychologists and psychiatrists are counseling people with this illness, but an estimated 19 million American adults are still living with major depression. Why is this?

Is It Really About the Pre-nup?! (The Kobe and Vanessa Divorce)

Many of my friends and family know, I'm not a big fan of Kobe Bryant and the Los Angeles Lakers. I just never liked the team. However, it really broke my heart to see in breaking news, right before Christmas, that Kobe and Vanessa Bryant are getting a divorce.

What saddens me most is that the public is worried about Vanessa not signing a prenup. Is it really about the money?

Here's what I think...

They Definitely Scared Me Straight!!!

This show is so darn frightening, I laugh. I don't mean that it frightens me in such a way I jump out of my seat. No. I mean it scares me to see that there are young people in this world that are that stubborn and rebellious--at such a young age.

And I laugh because I would cry otherwise. This is what the future generation is turning into.
Let me tell you why this one particular episode on Thursday night made me write about it, though...

Good Deeds: Tyler Perry's New Movie Role

Usually when Tyler Perry comes out with a movie it's usually hit or miss with me. Well, after watching the movie trailer for his upcoming role in Good Deeds, I'll tell you what I think about this one...

WikiLeaks Trial Begins for Army Soldier

This morning I woke up to a loud military helicopter hovering over my house located here at Fort Meade, Maryland. I had no clue what was going on right near me, until my husband, who's a soldier in the U.S. Army, told me that the pre-trial hearing for the WikiLeaks case was beginning today.

Whaaat?

Yes. So, immediately I said a prayer asking God to cover this Army post and the National Security Agency since that's where my husband was headed. I didn't have time to get details about where exactly this case stemmed from, so me being me, I did some research of my own. This is what I found.

On the Way to Court, for Child Support, in My Porsche!

I know many of you seen the ridiculous episode of The Real Housewives of Atlanta on Bravo last night. This reality show is supposedly centered around rich housewives in the metro area of Atlanta, Georgia. Let's not mention that none of the ladies featured on the show are really housewives--at least not according to Proverbs 31 they're not. But I digress.

The episode that premiered last night had my Twitter timeline on fire. There were tweets coming from all directions with personal opinions regarding the issue of Sheree and Bob Whitfield, who recently got a divorce. The issue? Bob is almost four years behind on his child support. Yikes...

I'm Not Meant to be Tied Down..or am I?

Reed Between the Lines. My new favorite African-American sitcom airing on television right now. The show follows a modern-day blended family, starring veteran actor Malcolm Jamal Warner and actress Tracy Ellis Ross, as they go through life's ups and downs with wit and humor. The show encompasses tons of underlying messages that requires viewers to literally "read between the lines" in order to decipher the true meaning that is conveyed to us. I watch this show faithfully every Tuesday night (10/9pm eastern time on BET).

However, last night in particular, one of their back to back episodes really caught my attention and I just had to share my thoughts...

Would You Change?

You're more than likely aware that we're approaching 2012 pretty fast. Matter of fact, it will be here in a matter of weeks. I'm still trying to grasp the idea that we have already made it through 2011. If you feel as I do, it seems as if this year just started yesterday!

With the new year coming, also comes those New Year's resolutions. Don't deny the fact that you've been sitting around contemplating what your "change" will be or what you're giving up for 2012. I used to be the same way. Every year, setting a new resolution. Telling myself that I am going to do this or be that. How many years did it take for those resolutions to actually kick into gear, though. You tell me...

Act Like A Lady, Leave a Man to Think for Himself!

I recently posted an article ("I'll Act Like A Lady, but I Don't Want to Think Like A Man) in response to the book by Steve Harvey, entitled Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man. I shared my feelings and opinions about the book and also divulged information about the new movie coming out stemming from the book--which I can't wait to see. Although, I wrote what I wrote...I wasn't yet finished.  I wanted to go deeper into why I felt women shouldn't have to think like a man.

I'll Act Like A Lady, but I Don't Want to Think Like A Man!

In light of the "Think Like A Man "movie trailer being released today, I just knew I had to share my feelings about Steve Harvey and the whole reason behind this movie--his bestselling book Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man...

Are You "That" Woman?

Angela and Marcus argue in Why Did I Get Married Too?

I'm pretty sure every black man (maybe some of other races too) have come across one "Angela" over the course of their adult life. If you don't know who "Angela" is, let me divulge that information before I continue...

"Giving You the Best That I've Got!"

Anita Baker had a classic title song from her third LP called, Giving You the Best that I've Got, which sold at en enormous rate. This single remains to be on my list of classy, soulful ballads to listen to. In this song, she made a vow to her man that she would give him the best that she had to offer.

I often listen to Anita Baker when I need to remind myself of how blessed I am in my relationship. This song is indeed at the top when making me snap back into the reason why I love so hard. If you haven't heard the song, you should take a listen and you will understand what I write here...

Taming My Tongue: 5 Ways to Guarantee a Tamed Tongue

He speaks. I cut him off. He tries to explain what happened. I interrupt with the "real" way it happened. He asks for my help. I go ahead and tell him how to do it since I "know" the right way.

Yep, that I is me. I am guilty of doing all these things to my husband...

Anger is Acidic to Your Relationship!

"Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured."  Mark Twain

Imagine the effects of hydrochloric acid on your skin. Hydrochloric acid is a solution of hydrogen chloride that is highly corrosive. It has the potential to damage respiratory organs, eyes, skin, and intestines. You would need protective personal equipment in order to handle this acid because it is so toxic.

Newsflash: that is how anger reacts to the body as well...

Are You Walking in Wisdom? 10 Ways to Know For Sure

"By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established." That profound statement comes from Proverbs 24:3 (NIV). This is scripture we should all keep in our memory banks as we are trying to build our lives and personal relationships every day.  My goal in life is to grow in wisdom. To seek it out every single day so that I may walk in it, speak it, and recognize it when it comes in my direction just as Proverbs 31 tells me to.  This is what I want for your life too...

The "Long" Saga Continues...Eddie's Sabbatical

Pun very much intended.

This whole Eddie and Vanessa Long saga has gone on for a very long time. I've already previously posted several times about the back and forth drama between the couple. Bishop Eddie L. Long, mega-church leader and televangelist was blasted in the media the last several months over a lawsuit settlement that stemmed from four young men and some very bad allegations, especially for a man of the cloth...

TI & Tiny: Are They Redeeming Themselves?

I know many of you (like me) were anticipating the new series on VH1 from Tip and Tameka Harris, TI and Tiny: The Family Hustle. Well, in my opinion, it was well worth the wait. It was entertaining, engaging, and REAL. Unfortunately, everyone didn't feel this way...

Yikes, The Crazy Cycle!

A husband comes home from work to find his wife (who's upset about her missing shirt) in the laundry room folding clothes. He tells her he loves her new hairdo, and he's glad she was able to get it done. No harm, no foul. Well, that is not the same feeling the wife is trying to reciprocate... She rolls her eyes as she tells him she hasn't had time to get her hair done in weeks because she's too busy cleaning and cooking to do anything else. Uh oh, he sees where this is headed so he goes to massage her shoulders and kiss her face. She shrugs him off. He tells her that she still looks good anyway and maybe she could make an appointment for this weekend. She rolls her eyes again. Now his frustration is rising as he tells her, fine don't make one; it's whatever she wants to do. No, wrong move...

Trouble in the Public Relations Camp (Vanessa Long's Woes)

Vanessa Long and/or her publicist team are discombobulated. At least, I think so.

After a public statement from her camp declaring she had filed a petition for divorce in Atlanta, GA from well known mega-church leader, Bishop Eddie L. Long, there was another statement released later that afternoon saying there had been a change of heart and divorce was not an option.
Now, there has been yet another media released statement saying Vanessa is still going to file those papers....

Vanessa Long Files for Divorce

I was waiting and dreading (like everyone else) for the next part of the Eddie Long scandal. It's been all over the news and social media sites about the indiscretions and poor judgement of mega-church New Birth leader Bishop Eddie Long. Well, it finally happened.
According to one of my favorite blogs for socialites, celebrities, and entertainment news THE YBF...this is what Vanessa addressed to the public:

When Times are Hard, What Do I Do?

Never give up.

That's what you do. That's what I tell my husband and eight year old son everyday. Never give up. No matter how hard and trying the day is, never give up. No matter who struggles with you. No matter who doesn't believe in your ability. No matter who walks out on you. NEVER give up! Instead, use that same energy you divest in surrendering, and invest it into winning the battle that you're currently in. Don't get tired of doing what's good in this crazy and judgemental world. I boldly proclaim, as the Bible says, that at the right and just time (the perfect time) we will reap a harvest of blessings...if we just don't give up.

T.I. and Tiny: The Family Hustle...Reality on TV

"I believe in love. I just don't believe in stupid."

This is what Wendy Williams said during her hot topic segment on her daytime television talk show this morning. Now, Wendy, I totally agree with that statement. I wholeheartedly believe in love...I just don't believe in stupidity.

Too Much Chaos? Free Your Mind!

If you weren't aware, I'll make it known, that our mindsets have A LOT to do with where we are in our lives both physically and mentally. One of my favorite scriptures in the Bible (NIV) says "as a man thinketh, so is he."

Basically, we are whatever we think about on a daily basis. The problem is, too many of us are giving other people and things such as, reality television, social media, and unauthorized relationships an open invitation to wreck our lives; an invitation to cause chaos in our minds...
